What do I need to bring with me?

Plenty of nappies and anything you require to feed your baby, if you are a breastfeeding mum we have a screen available to give you some privacy if you would prefer. Snacks for yourself if you are a breastfeeding mum as our newborn shoots can run longer and wee one can be more thirsty or wanting the comfort in a new environment. A special toy, book or blanket that you would like incorporated into the photoshoot (not required but can add a nice touch). If you have an older sibling in the shoot then a favourite toy can be useful to help direct them to look at the camera.

What should I wear?

Your newborn will spend most of the time wrapped or without clothes on to show how small and new they are, but if you have a special outfit you would like them photographed in please feel free to bring along. You may also wish to bring some hats or hairbands to add some detail, again this is your choice. In regard to clothes for mum and dad or any siblings being incorporated into the shoot it is best to have plain neutral colours, nothing with large patterns. Wearing plain black or white gives a timeless feel, soft pastel colours also work great, make sure you are comfortable.

The studio can get quite warm (keeping the newborn warm and cosy) it is good to wear something light regardless of your intention to be photographed or not.

COVID-19

We have always taken care when cleaning the studio. We do now allow extra time in-between shoot to do a deep clean of floor and surfaces. Any props or blankets are washed and/or left for at least 48 hours.

When entering we would ask you to wear a mask, this can be removed once we enter the studio itself.

We would ask you to take off your shoes and use the hand sanitiser which will be available upon entering.

For our newborn shoots we do tend to have the studio on the warmer side for the comfort of your baby, however we may have the window open from time to time to provide fresh air in to circulate through the studio.

Structure of the shoot

Structure of the shoot: We are led by your newborn on the shoot, we never push them to do something they are not comfortable with. You may want specific ‘poses’ and we will always endeavour to try to meet your wishes however some newborns will go into some poses very easy and naturally and for others poses will push back, this is normal and to do with the positions have have been in before they are born. Your newborn may also want a feed in the middle of the shoot, again we are led by your newborn and will pause the photoshoot. For this reason newborn shoots can last up to 2 hours.

I always like to encourage you, mum and dad to let me capture you holding and cuddling your baby, these are the photos that really show how tiny they are at this stage and are incredibly special to have and look back on.

If you are having a sibling incorporated into the photos then please have other arrangements for them once they have had their photos as the session can run long and a bored sibling can have an impact on the number and quality of photos.
