Newborn Photography

"Never will they fit in the palm of your hand again"

—every parent

First off, congratulation on your happy news!

Thank you for taking the time to consider me with the privilege to photograph your newborn baby. It is not something I will ever take for granted - I consider it a complete privilege as your newborn photographer as I am quite often one of the first people to meet your new arrival and quite often the first time new parents have left the house.

Once in a lifetime...

Newborn photography is a once in a lifetime experience as your child will change and grow in the blink of an eye. Our newborn sessions capture your baby how they will never be again - Oh so tiny and we capture these details for you to remember and cherish forever. Capturing these teeny tiny details that will change so quickly is not something you will ever regret and you will look back on them and be in complete awe.

Timeless photography

My aim is to capture your new baby in a very natural and timeless way. You can rest assured that I pose your baby with he greatest of skill and most importantly care.

Safety

Training has been undertaken in Baby Safety and Posing for Newborn Photographers ensuring your child’s safety is our priority.

I am baby led and never push them to do something they are not comfortable with.

You may have in mind specific ‘poses’ you would like from the photoshoot and I will always endeavour to try to meet your wishes however some newborns will go into some poses very easy and naturally and for others poses will push back, this is normal and to do with the positions they have have been in the womb before they are born.

When to book

I recommend booking in around about your 20 week scan but don’t worry if you are further along than that just get in touch to see if we still have availability

Your newborn is best photographed between 5 and 14 days old. At this stage I can pose your baby in those sleepy curled up positions, before the get used to the outside world and start to stretch out.

After two weeks it is still possible to photograph your newborn however, babies tend to be less sleepy and want to stretch out, so certain poses might not be possible.

How does it work

As babies rarely arrive on their due date I allow plenty of space in my diary to accommodate for early and late arrivals. I ‘pencil in’ your estimated due date in my diary to keep your place. Once your new arrival makes his/her appearance, you get in touch and I can schedule in your confirm shoot date with we try to do between 5 and 14 days old. I tend to do my newborn sessions in the mornings as babies are generally more sleepy at this time.

What to expect from your newborn photoshoot

Our newborn shoots typically last around 2 hours. It can quite often be the first time since giving birth that new parents have stopped and can just relax and actually admire and marvel at the tiny human being that you've made.

As said our sessions are baby led and go at the pace of your newborn, they may want a feed during the shoot and can often pee and poo more. For this reason newborn shoots can sometimes last longer.

Your newborn will spend most of the time wrapped or without clothes this shows how small and new they are, don’t worry we keep the studio warm enough to keep them comfortable.

I always like to encourage mum and dad to let me capture you holding and cuddling your baby, these are the photos that really show how tiny they are at this stage and are incredibly special to have and look back on. Wearing plain neutral colours, nothing with large patterns. Plain black or white gives a timeless feel.

The studio can get quite warm (keeping the newborn warm and cosy) it is good to wear something light regardless of your intention to be photographed or not.

You will receive an email within 2 weeks after your photoshoot with a link and a password to a private online viewing gallery for you to select your photos. Each photo is individually edited to look their best.

How old should my baby be?

Your newborn is best photographed between 5 and 14 days old. At this stage I can pose your baby in those sleepy curled up positions, before the get used to the outside world and start to stretch out.

When will I get my photos?

You will receive an email within 2 weeks after your photoshoot with a link and a password to a private online viewing gallery for you to select your photos. This gives us enough time to individually edit each photo to look their best.

What do I need to bring?

Plenty of nappies and anything you require to feed your baby, if you are a breastfeeding mum we have a screen available to give you some privacy if you would prefer. Snacks for yourself if you are a breastfeeding mum as our newborn shoots can run longer and wee one can be more thirsty or wanting the comfort in a new environment. A special toy, book or blanket that you would like incorporated into the photoshoot (not required but can add a nice touch).

Where does the photoshoot take place?

We are based in a home studio in Central Scotland between Glasgow and Edinburgh easily situated for Falkirk, Stirling and North Lanarkshire.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. Just a £10 deposit to secure you booking slot.

What if I need to cancel?

There is a 48-hour cancellation policy. However I do understand that babies and children are prone to catching colds or becoming ill suddenly. I’ll do everything I can to reschedule your appointment to another day.
